Learn about local history at the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County in Conroe. Located within a historic home, exhibits document the county’s past, from the lumber and oil industry booms to the daily lives of residents. Favorites include the recreated office of Dr. C. B. Stewart, Montgomery County resident and designer of the “Lone Star” flag, and the “hands-on room” where children can explore a log cabin and general store. The museum hosts a summer camp with pioneer activities, like butter churning and candle dipping.
Heritage Museum of Montgomery County is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. A suggested donation of $1 for adults and $0.50 for kids makes this an affordable and educational afternoon stop.
